Saturday June 30 | 9:30 AM – Preserve Scavenger Hunt + Rally Race
Throughout Walloon Lake Watershed
Celebrate the 40 years of conservation and join us for this Scavenger Hunt and Rally Race to explore our preserves! Get a team together – think ‘car-load’ of people – and you’ll drive through a course leading you to three preserves, and have to complete a mission at each preserve! Be prepared for running, hiking, and maybe even cartwheels! Rain or shine. Top two teams win an awesome prize basket to keep you supplied while outdoors all season. Meet at 9:30am at the Walloon Lake Trust and Conservancy offices at 4060 M-75, Walloon Lake. Postle Farm Preserve, Melrose Township
Geared for kids ages 6 – 12, we’re offering two days of programming at the Postle Farm Preserve. Your kids will explore the preserve with Amalia Fernand, a talented local environmental educator. They’ll learn about warm–blooded animals, cold-blooded animals and all the fun stuff that helps these animals thrive and receive a special field guide written by Amalia! *Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. Wednesday July 18 | 10AM – “The Foot” BYOK – Bring Your Own Kayak (or SUP)
Melrose Township Boat Launch
Join us as we kayak the “Foot” of Walloon Lake. Bring your kayak and PFD to the public launch in Walloon Lake. We’ll paddle past the marina, the beach, and take a break at our newest preserve along the shores of Walloon Lake. Further exploration of the shoreline and Foot Basin will be followed by an optional picnic lunch at a spot of the group’s choosing. Wednesday August 15 | 10AM – Wander Walloon Hike
Walloon Lake Winery, Intertown Road
WLTC will be hosted by Walloon Lake Winery for an exploration of the fields and vines beyond the tasting room. This property, at the headwaters of Schoof’s Creek, is an important place for water quality protection and continuing farming operations in the region. We’ll explore why this property is good for grape growing, identify some common invasive species, and enjoy a morning spent among the vines. Jones Landing Park on Gruler Road
Join WLTC staff for an easy paddle in the North Arm of Walloon Lake and into the Schoof’s Creek Nature Area. We’ll enjoy potential otter, great blue heron, turtle, and bald eagle sighting! Bring your own kayak and PFD to the Jones Landing Park boat launch at 10am. We can gather for a picnic lunch afterwards in the pavilion, so bring your own lunch too!
