The Lake

As enthusiastic champions of our Walloon Lake watershed, Association members care deeply about the 37 miles of shoreline and 4,270 acres of lake water. This sand bottom, spring-fed, glacier formed lake is a gem of the Up North landscape and its waters extend into two Counties and five Townships. Some 900 residents occupy the shoreline.  There are still large tracts of undeveloped land owned by private parties and the state of Michigan.

Of these 900 residents, 78% are official members and supporters of the Walloon Lake Association - among the highest participation rate of lake associations in the state of Michigan.  Active water quality programs are managed in cooperation with local natural resource conservation groups, while proactive efforts are underway to support natural vegetation greenbelts at the lake shoreline.
